Ladies’ Choice
Great design is measured in great relationships. Each of these stylish women picked the right design partner to create the spark that brings all the sparkle.
Opposite; Designer James Pine/ Nina Griscom
The most important design element in the eponymous antiques shop that James Pine designed for longtime friend Nina Griscom is the one customers never see. It’s Pine’s black Yukon XL SUV, the zoom machine the pair used to zip around collecting the fixtures that make the boutique at Lex and 70th so personal and chic. “We only had one month,” says Pine. With that deadline, no one could fault them for acting like two bulls in a thousand china shops. “We raced to Crate and Barrel, and in 20 minutes picked out the etageres we like,” she says. It helped that the two are longtime antiques collectors who often hit the flea market circuit together. Griscom says, “We usually pounce on the same thing at the same time. He, ever the gentleman, usually defers to me.”
